He listened to our requests, took on-board our suggestions and created our ideal layout.  He provided various options to challenge our thinking to ensure we were making the best use of our space.

 

He is incredibly responsive and very professional, any questions or queries we had were dealt with very promptly.  He is well versed in the planning laws and has a wealth of experience in dealing with councils.  He understood our project and was committed to ensuring it was approved with the council, he articulately challenged any concerns the council raised and had our proposal approved.

We first met Paul at Grand Designs Live where we noticed he was showing clients how something would look in reality.   He had been to the show previously and had returned with his clients to illustrate his ideas.  We decided that was the kind of proactive architect we needed!  We had been struggling to achieve a "blank sheet of paper" approach to the redesign of our existing Victorian basement, vaults and planned extension.   All the plans we’d received from our original architect were variations on a theme and uninspiring and this was holding up our commencing the work. 

 

A few days after the show we showed Paul the space and outlined our living needs.   He came back very promptly and efficiently with something which is phenomenal.  He thought completely out of the box and we were thrilled with how clever and innovative his ideas were for our space.  He helped us with the necessary planning amendments, our building contract and has been on hand for any extra detailing involved in a Victorian design-build refurbishment project.  We are almost at the end of our build and our basement is fantastic!   Paul’s ability to see things differently is inspired.  He is friendly, articulate and helpful to work with and we have absolutely no hesitation in recommending him.

Paul prepared a number of drawings for a renovation of our ground floor flat in a Victorian terraced house in Fulham.  There were several iterations as they required approval from an awkward freeholder, but with his help, advice and expertise we were able to satisfy the freeholder without compromising on our own requirements and now have a spacious light and airy three bedroom, two bathroom home.

 

Paul was quick to suggest ideas that dealt the freeholder's concerns, was able to turn around revisions quickly and was at our side when the council received a complaint from the freeholder, explaining that what we had built was exactly in line with what they had approved, right to the number of brick courses.

I have known and worked with Paul Lewis of Altham Lewis Architects since 2009 when, as the project architect, Paul led a team for the initial design and gained planning approval for a 263 bed hotel. Comprising a 14 storey tower element and incorporating a 3 storey listed building.

 

We have since worked together on a number of feasibility schemes. The latest project being a 65 bed hotel for which Paul provided the planning application drawings which gained scheme approval with the Local Authority.
